Dog bite claims are not usually allowed if the dog has shown no previous signs of anger. If the dog does show signs of aggression then the owner maybe at risk to pay compensation to any victim that the dog attacks.

If the owner is not in control of the dog then it will be taken further and maybe more damages will be paid to the victim. It is usually the larger dogs that do more harm. The Dangerous Dogs Act came into being in May 1991. Certain types of breeds have to be muzzled in public if the dog is not registered; micro chipped, or meets other specific requirements. If these requirements are not met, and the dog goes out of control in a public place without a muzzle, the victim can be awarded damages. In most cases the dog will be destroyed.
